Every summer, I look forward to photographing families at Lavender Pond Farm in Killingworth, CT.
It is one of the most unique locations on the Connecticut shoreline: rows of purple lavender, soft evening light, and plenty of space for kids to explore. The setting feels special without being overly formal, which makes it perfect for relaxed family photos.
Last summer’s Lavender Pond Farm mini sessions were filled with returning families, growing babies, toddler personalities, and plenty of updated family photos. I’m sharing a few favorites throughout this post as we get ready to head back to the lavender fields in July 2026.
Why Lavender Pond Farm Photos Are So Special
Lavender Pond Farm is beautiful throughout the summer, but the richest color for photos usually happens during a fairly short window around early to mid-July.
Since lavender is a flower, the exact timing is always up to Mother Nature. But when the fields are in bloom, the rows of purple create a backdrop that is hard to find anywhere else in Connecticut.
That short season is part of what makes these sessions feel so special. You only get a small window each year to make them happen.

2026 Lavender Pond Farm Mini Session Details
Lavender Pond Farm mini sessions are now open for booking.
These sessions are short and sweet, making them a great option for families who want a few updated photos without committing to a full custom session.
Location: Lavender Pond Farm in Killingworth, CT

Mini sessions are booked back-to-back, so the timeline is fairly structured. I plan the location and bring the simple props we may use. All you need to do is arrive in coordinating outfits and be ready to have some fun with your family.

Who Are Lavender Mini Sessions Best For?
Lavender Pond Farm mini sessions are a good fit for families who want:
- a small collection of updated family photos
- a few images of the kids together
- milestone photos in a colorful outdoor setting
- a quick annual session for holiday cards or frames around the house
- a relaxed session that does not take up the entire evening
The location works especially well for young families. Kids can move around, walk through the fields, and interact naturally rather than feeling like they need to sit still and smile at the camera for 15 minutes straight.

Need More Time? Book a Custom Lavender Farm Session
Mini sessions are not the only way to photograph your family at Lavender Pond Farm.
If you want more flexibility, a larger gallery, or a little more breathing room for young children, you can also book a custom session at the farm during lavender season.
A custom Lavender Pond Farm session may be a better fit if you are planning:
- an extended family session
- a maternity session
- a milestone session for your baby
- a senior portrait session
- a session with multiple young children who may need more time to warm up
- a larger collection of images with more variety
Custom sessions allow us to choose a date that works for your family and build the session around what you want to capture. Availability is still limited because the most colorful bloom period does not last very long.

A Few Things to Know Before Booking
Lavender Pond Farm sessions are beautiful, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
First, lavender and bees go hand in hand. You will see plenty of bees working around the flowers. They are generally focused on the lavender rather than us, but this location is not the right choice for anyone with a serious bee allergy.
Second, July evenings can be warm. Light, comfortable outfits usually work best, especially for young children.
Finally, availability is limited. The farm controls photography access, and the strongest bloom window is short. If lavender photos are on your list for 2026, it is a good idea to reserve your spot early.

What Should You Wear for Lavender Farm Family Photos?
The lavender fields bring plenty of color, so simple outfits tend to photograph best.
Soft neutrals, creams, light blues, muted greens, dusty pinks, and subtle floral patterns all work well. You do not need to match perfectly. Coordinating colors and textures usually look more natural than putting everyone in the same outfit.
Once you book, I’m happy to help with styling suggestions so your family feels pulled together without looking overly planned.
