When families ask me about booking both a maternity and newborn session, my answer is always the same: there’s something different about having both captured by the same photographer, and you can see it in the photos.

The images are cohesive. The editing style, the color palette, the overall feel — it all flows from one session to the next. If you put your maternity portraits and your newborn portraits side by side, they look like they belong together, because they do. That’s harder to achieve when you’re working with two different photographers who have two different styles.

We can also carry elements through from one session to the next — a specific wrap, a color palette, a prop that was meaningful to you during your maternity session. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference when you’re looking back at those photos years from now.

You also just get more comfortable.
This is the part people don’t always think about but end up appreciating the most. By the time you walk into your newborn session, we already know each other. There are no surprises, no awkward getting-to-know-you stage while you’re exhausted with a brand new baby. You already know what to expect from me and I already know what matters to you.
That comfort shows up directly in the photos. There’s less pressure to perform. Things feel more natural. And when things feel natural, you get more natural, loving images.

I’ve had families hire me to photograph their entire first year — maternity through the twelve month milestone — and watching that journey unfold is genuinely one of my favorite parts of this work. Watching babies grow from bump to one year, getting to know the mom, seeing how much more relaxed everyone becomes with each session. By the time we’re at the one year milestone it feels less like a photoshoot and more like catching up with people I genuinely care about.

The album makes it real.
When you book a bump to baby or first year package, a professionally designed album is included. For a lot of new parents, having someone take that off their plate is a bigger relief than they expected. You’re not staring at thousands of digital files wondering how to turn them into something tangible. You end up with a beautifully designed album that tells the complete story of your baby’s first chapter — from the last weeks of pregnancy through those early newborn days and beyond.

If you’re expecting and thinking about a maternity session, it’s worth considering what you want the full picture to look like. I’d love to be part of that whole journey with you.
