It’s my favorite time of the year! Summertime means warm afternoons by the pool, camping trips and, of course, beach family photography sessions! If you’re planning to take advantage of our gorgeous beaches in CT, here are 3 things to consider when scheduling your family beach photography session.
1. The kids bedtime
If you have young kids but still want those beautiful beach sunsets as a backdrop to your family’s photos, there are plenty of options! I spend a lot of my time photographing at Hammonasett State park in Madison CT. Not only is the entrance to the park free for CT residents, but it offers a variety of options at one location. This huge beautiful beach is incredibly versatile if you want to have your photos done in the middle of the summer but don’t want to finish at sunset which can be quite late. Another option is to push off your photos to the end of August or even September. With the sun setting earlier (7-730ish) we’re able to start the session before it’s the kids bedtime. Another wonderful part of waiting until the end of summer is that you’ll have way less people at the beach and usually less humid, rainy days! You really cannot go wrong.
2. The Budget
This is such a personal decision for you and your family. But there are many options available for different budget types. Full sessions offer more time and more versatility within your photoshoot. We can play some games, check out a few different locations, and catch lots of in-between snuggly moments. Classic sessions are shorter and are great for short attention spans or to keep to a tighter budget. Mini sessions are offered once a year at the beach location and are great for some quick updated photos of your family. 3. The location
The CT shoreline offers so much variety in its beautiful vast beaches. Each beach is unique with the different features. There are rocky beaches and dune beach. There are castle mansions located by the beach. There are private beaches and there are lots of state parks with gorgeous beaches.
Your photographer can help you find the perfect location that will suit what you’re looking for. One thing to keep in mind is that you want to choose a location that the photographer you chose is very familiar with. They’ll be able to guide you on the best timing and spots to photograph at.
