Today we’re exploring one of the frequently asked questions: when should you take newborn pictures?
If you ask a newborn photographer about timing for your newborn session, they’ll often tell you that the ideal time frame for newborn photos is between 5-15 days after birth. This is an ideal time to take newborn pictures because the babies are still very sleepy, very squishy and often easiest to pose. Newborn babies tend to be a little more awake and alert, a little more sensitive after 4-6 weeks after birth.
In order to schedule newborn photos to be taken within the first 15 days, it is best to reach out to photographers in your second trimester. Most newborn photographers will schedule a limited number of newborn babies each month since due dates and babies are unpredictable. This allows you to the best chance of getting that “ideal” spot for photos.
However, if you missed the “ideal” window, do not fret. Because the truth is that the most ideal time to take your baby’s newborn photos is when you can! While older newborn babies can be a bit more alert or sensitive, they are still your baby and getting photos of them while they’re small and squishy is still amazing. You may not get the newborn poses you see posted, but you WILL get gorgeous images of your baby and maybe even some beautiful eyes wide open shots that are much harder to get with a baby that is under 2 weeks old.
