Location ideas for your next family photoshoot.
Family photos are timeless and if you are looking to update your family portraits or take some for the first time, you might be wondering about what location to use for them.
Here are some things to consider before choosing a location:
Comfort
A family photoshoot is where you get to smile, laugh and be yourselves. Look for spots that make your family feel comfortable. Love to hike? Let’s check out a wooded path in a nearby state park. Love playing in the water or at the beach? The shoreline is one of the most beautiful spots for family photos, especially August – September.
Personalities
What makes your family unique? Choose a location that fits in with who you are as a family. Do you enjoy spending time on the beach, taking nature walks, sitting on a quiet bench beneath the willows? Want something more unique like Lavender Pond Farm?
Convenience
Take each member of your family into consideration. What are their ages and needs? If you have two toddlers that might need to use a bathroom at any time, then a remote spot is probably not the best idea.
Family Photoshoot Location Ideas
Below are some ideas of where you could arrange your photo session.
Studio: this location is wonderful for little ones that get easily distracted outdoors or tend to bolt. This is also a perfect location for babies under 1 that don’t walk yet. If you’re looking for something timeless and airy, this is a great option for your family.
Beach: the shoreline is a perfect place for beach photography! Talk to your photographer about choosing a location that best fits the time of day and ages of your children. Beach minis are in August! Don’t miss a chance for a quick 15 minute session with your family.
My favorite time to photograph families on the beach on the CT Shoreline is September through November and sometimes even further into the winter months! I love that it’s off-season and I absolutely adore the gorgeous September sunsets in Connecticut.
Farm: no no not the red barn type of farm (although if you find one of those locations, I expect a text or a message!). Madison and Guilford have some amazing locations that offer a “farm feel” for those looking for a rustic location for their family.
Lavender: A new favorite around here, Lavender has gorgeous blooms late June through August.
Fall foliage: There are a ton of locations that offer this – work with your photographer to find the perfect one for you and your family. Mid-October to early November is the best foliage.
So tell me – what do you think is the best option for your family photography on the CT Shoreline?
