I absolutely love extended family photography sessions – I really do. There is just something so amazing about being able to capture generations within a family pictures and all the different dynamics that this presents. And while I absolutely love the results, it’s usually difficult to pull an extended family session together. First and foremost, finding a time on the calendar and a location that works for everyone is tough!
I know first-hand since this year we scheduled our very own extended family pictures with the talented Kathryn Schauer of Kathryn Schauer photography. Let me tell ya – making sure that no one got sick (we have 4 littles between us and 7 adults!), that everyone’s travel plans worked out, and that no one needed a nap and snack was no easy feat. But the results? Oh the results are SO worth it!
Today I wanted to share a very special extended session for my dear friend Kirsten and her family. While the weather didn’t look like it would cooperate, we decided to risk it and move forward with the session anyways – I am so happy that we did. The kids were in great spirits and even all the adults had smiles on their faces (my corny jokes are always oh so helpful). We played, took photos, and enjoyed a completely empty state park at Hammonasset. After all, it was supposed to be pouring most of the day but for about an hour it barely drizzled. I think the final photos speak for themselves and I know how much this family loves them and will have these photos to pass down for generations to come.
Here they are – the 3 siblings. I’m so happy with how this photo turned out!
Kirsten and her family – no strangers in front of my camera. I have been photographing the girls and this family for over 2 years!
A cousin shot – seriously an absolute must have. Not only is it great for the parents and grandparents, but I know the kids will treasure these when they’re all grown up and reminiscing.
A very lucky uncle and his brood.
Along with making sure that we prioritized capturing the generations, this family and I also talked about prioritizing family photos for Molly. They are so stinkin’ adorable and I loved the outfits that mom pulled together.
And this. I mean, come on! Look at those smiling faces – I am dying to see this photo blown up big in the grandparents’ home.
And finally, the whole family.
Thank you so much for choosing me as your photographer and trusting me to capture this amazing time in your life.

Looking for a professional photographer who is laid back, flexible and knows how to capture that perfect moment without making you feel like you’re striking a cheesy pose? Want someone who will guide you into a natural pose that won’t feel awkward or forced? Do you want someone who will make you feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera?
You’ve found us. We specialize in working with newborns, babies and young children, although those skills are easily transferable to the adults as well (I’ve been known to use a squeaker on a grown-up or two). We absolutely love working with children and it shows. You won’t find us losing patience or pushing them to do anything they don’t want to do. We take our cues from them and from you. Our sessions are completely customized for your family and, dare I say it, are fun.
