One of the most requested locations for Maternity and Family photography is the beach. Lucky for me this Madison CT beach location offers a wide variety of backdrops for your family photos. Take a look below at the versatility of Hammonasset State Park in Madison CT.
From beautiful greenery, winding paths, to open water, tall grass in the sand, to a moody rocky beach, this location has it all. When my clients reach out and ask about a beach location, I love to recommend this beach and then allow them to pick which side they would like to be photographed in. Let me share the 3 different spots at this beautiful beach location.
The first, and often most requested, is the West side. I often refer to this location as the “beachy” side. Starting with an adorable little path, it opens up to a wide long beach with minimal distractions. This location is perfect for sunset beach family photos or cloudy maternity photos.
This location also has some unique features like the log, tall grass, and, and little water pools created at low tide. While this side of the beach can sometimes get crowded during the season, it is perfect off-season. My favorite part of the year to photograph at this location is during the Fall months.
The second popular choice for family photography is the “rocky” end of the beach. This location allows me to create some different, often moody photographs.
I love the way the rocks create features in the photos and allow me to vary the posing. There is a large fallen tree that allows for some unique photos and beautiful backdrops. This location also has a path through the green shrubs and trees, allowing a variety of images to be captured.
If you are looking for a location that lets you capture some greenery as well as a beach location, this spot is for you!
What’s also great about this part of the beach is that there are often fewer people, even during the season. This spot also allows dogs and has a number of “hidden” spots that hide us from the wind.
One of my favorite times to photograph in this area is the winter! The rocks provide a natural barrier against the wind, allowing us to be a bit warmer. We are also able to start a bit earlier at this location while it is slightly warmer, before the sun sets.
And while there are those moody rocks and green paths, walking just a little while will bring us to the open sandy beach with a gorgeous peninsula of rocks. My client love all the features at this versatile location.
Last but not least is the middle part of the beach.
This location is unique in that it offers a walkway with covered trees. This feature photographs beautifully! The middle of the beach also features sandy beaches and tall grasses. It’s a beautiful location.
I do try to avoid this location during the season for the most part because it tens to be the most crowded here.
