5 tips to soothe your newborn baby from a newborn photographer

One of the most important skills that I learned early on as a newborn photographer and mom is how to sooth a fussy baby and help them fall asleep.

Posed newborn photography often relies on your baby being calm and sound asleep.  The poses that a newborn photographer places the baby in are completely comfortable for the baby, but require that they are completely relaxed.

If you’re looking for a newborn photographer you want to make sure that they practice safe posing and have the skills to operate their camera as well as manipulate light.  However, to do all that they first need to soothe the baby.

To help a baby relax, a newborn photographer spends time learning the various different methods to soothe the baby.

After over 6 years as a newborn photographer and 2 babies of my own I’ve become an expert at soothing babies.  New parents often joke with me that they would like to bring me home to help them soothe their newborn babies.

While most babies have fussy moments, especially in the evening, my second baby was extremely fussy most times of the day.  I spent a good amount of time doing research and trying various techniques to help me soothe her to sleep.  I think this experience helped me to hone in on my soothing skills.
