Do you ever want to just sneak a peek into someone else’s life? When I was a blogger (this was before I was a photographer), I used to do these “day in the life” posts all the time. And recently I realized that it’s been about a thousand years since I’ve done one. I kept waiting for a “perfect” day to capture our lives and then I realized that there is never enough time. Never enough light. Never enough energy. And so here goes nothing on a random day.
There are a few things we should discuss.
Today was a day. And I mean a day. mmmk? But I wouldn’t trade this for anything.
Also. My lil. She’s….energetic.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s start at the beginning. And the beginning is a 5am alarm that I desperately want to snooze daily (and sometimes do). But today was not one of those days.
But first, coffee. And to-do lists. And meditation. Followed quickly by catching up on editing, print orders, and pretty much everything else. I usually get a workout in as well, but I’m way way way behind on my to-do list so that fell by the wayside.
And once my first coffee cup is drowned, I can hear the kids’ alarm and I’m somewhere between excited and anxious for what’s to come. Because, you guys, school day mornings are no joke.
Once everyone is showered (ok, so just me on this one), dressed, teeth brushed, dogs pet, we head downstairs for breakfast. This is never without at least 1 (dozen) fights, arguments, oh you know.
Onwards to banana bread, backpacks, and socks. Why can’t they ever get their socks when they get dressed? If I had a penny for every time I’ve had to go back upstairs for socks…
Like I said, today was going to be a doozy. School, girl scouts, soccer, oh my.
My favorite part of my day is our walk to the bus stop. It’s our little moment to connect. Feel the fresh air. Listen to the neighborhood dogs bark.
Once the littles are off to school, I’m ready to take on my day. Today was filled with print orders that needed to go out, a quick Starbucks stop (can’t pass up a freebie), and setting up for a newborn session. Followed by- a newborn session 🙂
Session ended about half hour before I anticipated and so I edited a quick sneak peek and then rushed over to pick up my lil.
This kid.
Peapod pick up for the week. Usually I try to fit this in on Sundays but it didn’t happen.
Thanks to my amazing friend, we could skip the pickup/go to soccer run and unload the groceries. For some reason the lil insisted on lining up all the tuna cans? I’m just glad she helped.
Worried about quality of your groceries? Madison Peadpod’s pretty good! Today we had one cracked egg, but I also gained about 2 hours so…… letting that one slide.
Meanwhile, lil was trying to open her cheese stick.
She’s also telling me about a new friend she met at school. Her friend’s name is Dumpling. I’m still unclear about how much of her story was the truth and how much was just her neverending storytelling.
Dinner plan already out the window because there’s no way that I’ll get the fish ready on today’s schedule. But hey, I try.
You ever see those memes about kids with zippers? They’re writing about my life.
We had five minutes before we had to run out so I thought I would grab a quick cup of decaf. This one decided to climb the counter, roll on the floor (reason? unknown), use the potty (I did ask her to do that) and then wash her hands (step stool was about 1 foot away from her), decide furniture would save her from lava, and then trip over the dog bowl. Never a dull moment with this one.
Ok. Time for soccer. And apparently acrobatics for the lil one. She ran the field no less than a dozen times, rolled down every hill in sight, was reunited with about 3 friends from “my new school” and “played soccer” (maniac).
Thankfully my friend, same one whose husband rescued me at pickup, offered to feed us dinner. And we couldn’t say no. Because. Well. Ready-made dinner!
Here’s a fun little fact for ya. Last time I did one of these “day in the life” posts my kids were babies. And no one knew any better. Today they asked me what I was doing nonstop. And why. And why. And why. and why.
I tried my best to explain but omg 7/5 year olds.
Then we get in the car and I go to snap this and my eldest goes, “it’s ok. don’t smile. it’s a capture real life type of thing my mom’s doing.”
Well… It is…..
Dinner, bellies, puppies, and American Girl dolls.
Home to go to bed. Pick up random socks everywhere, feed the dogs, wash the dishes, pack the lunches……you know.
Daddy wasn’t home for bedtime so we called to tell him about our day.
Well, I bet you can guess what happens once the littles are in bed. Edit & Netflix. It’s going to be a Meme. You just wait.
Lazy assistant.
